How Fixert works, for the people who book through it and for the Fixers who do the work. Every point here is something the apps do.
What Fixert is
Fixert connects people in London with independent tradespeople, called Fixers. The Fixer does the work. Fixert runs the apps, checks Fixers’ documents, and handles payment. Fixert is run by Fixert Ltd.
There are two apps: Fixert, for booking a Fixer, and Fixert Service, for Fixers.
Booking a Fixer
- Fixert works in London. You choose a trade, say what needs doing, and choose how far to look: 1, 3 or 5 miles.
- Fixers nearby who are approved for that trade are told. Every Fixer has passed identity checks, and a trade that needs a qualification, such as gas or electrical work, shows a badge only when the certificate has been checked.
- Fixers who want the job offer to come. You choose which one to book. Their rate is shown before you book and is fixed for your job when you do.
- Until you book, Fixers see the postcode district of your address and nothing more.
Prices
- You pay for tracked time, at the rates shown before you book and fixed when you do.
- Work is charged at your Fixer’s rate. Travel and trips for parts are charged at half the work rate, and a trip for parts is charged for 60 minutes at most.
- The work timer starts when you confirm it, unless you have chosen to let your Fixer run the timers. Minutes are rounded up once, at the end.
- Costs your Fixer pays out of pocket, such as parking or materials, are added only once they are approved, at the amount on the receipt. If you let your Fixer run the timers, costs of up to £10 with a receipt are approved for you. Fixert adds nothing to costs.
- Fixert takes 10% of the labour from the Fixer. It is part of the rate you see, not added on top.
Cancelling
- Cancelling before your Fixer sets off costs nothing.
- After that you pay for the time already tracked.
- If your Fixer cancels, you pay nothing, and your request goes back out to other Fixers.
Paying
- You pay when the job is finished: from your wallet, by card, or by both. You cannot book another job while one is waiting to be paid.
- Card payments are taken by Stripe. Fixert keeps no card details. Stripe can remember your card for next time if you tick the box for it when you pay; it is then Stripe that keeps it, under Stripe’s own privacy policy.
Your wallet
- Money in your wallet is credit with Fixert for paying for Fixert jobs. It cannot be sent to anyone else or taken out as cash.
- You can add between £5 and £500 at a time, and a wallet holds up to £1,000.
- Money you added by card can be sent back to that card if you ask, as long as it has not been spent.
- If Fixert adds money to your wallet, you are told how much and why.
Problems and refunds
- You can report a problem from the job at any point once a Fixer is booked. The timers and the cost are attached for you, and a person looks at it.
- Fixert may refund all or part of a payment where the record supports it. A refund goes back the way you paid: to your card first, then to your wallet.
Working through Fixert
- Fixers are independent tradespeople. You choose when you are online, which jobs you offer for, and what you charge per minute. Fixert runs the app, checks your documents, and collects payment from the customer.
- You can take jobs in a trade once it is approved on your account. A trade that needs a qualification needs the certificate on file first.
- You can turn a job down, with a reason. Turning down work you are not qualified for is fine; repeatedly declining jobs you are approved for reduces how often similar work reaches you.
What Fixers are paid
- You are paid for tracked time, at the rate and discount that stood when the customer booked you. Changing your rate later does not change a job already booked.
- Travel and trips for parts are paid at half your work rate, and a trip for parts is paid for 60 minutes at most.
- Fixert keeps 10% of the labour. Costs you add, such as parking or materials, come back to you in full once the customer approves them.
Cancellations and no-shows
- If a customer cancels, you are paid for the time you had already tracked.
- If you cancel, nothing is owed for that job, and it counts against how often you are shown work.
- If a customer is not there, wait ten minutes and try to call. You can then end the booking and be paid for the travel.
Payouts
- Earnings reach your balance when the customer pays.
- A payout is sent by bank transfer to the account you give, after Fixert has checked it.
Ratings and reviews
- After a job, each side can rate the other. Customers see a Fixer’s rating and reviews; Fixers see a customer’s rating.
- Fixert may set a review aside while it looks into a complaint about it, and may hide it.
Your account
- Keep your password to yourself. If you forget it, the sign-in screen emails you a code to set a new one.
- Fixert can suspend an account, for example while it looks into a complaint. A suspended account cannot raise, offer for or book jobs.
- You can delete your account in the app: Account in Fixert, Profile in Fixert Service. What happens then is on the support page and in the privacy policy.
